Gilroy Garlic Festival’s 41st Queen to Be Crowned on May 19

May 3, 2019 (Gilroy, CA): Every year since 1979, the Gilroy Garlic Festival has crowned a “Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen” to reign over the festivities. This year’s 41st annual Queen Pageant will be held at New Hope Community Church on Sunday, May 19, 2019 at 3:00 pm.

Katie Alatorre, Chair of the Queen Pageant Committee, said, “We're so excited to be hosting our 41st annual Pageant. Our contestants are working hard to get ready for the event. We encourage everyone to come out to see these incredibly talented young women.”

Ten contestants will be judged by a panel of five judges on personal interview, talent, garlic speech, and on-stage question. The first place winner will be crowned Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival 2019. Christopher Ranch will be awarding scholarships totaling over $15,000.

This year’s contestants include Amaya Leyba-Guerra, Katie Van Horn, and Raeanne Ceballos from Gilroy High School; Brianna Budelli and Gisselle Oliveria from Christopher High School; Simran Sihra from the Dr. TJ Owens Gilroy Early College Academy; Lilly Higging from Presentation High School; Jennesa Andrade from Gavilan College; Kylie Kuwada from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo; and Lauryn Longoria, who attends Vanguard University.

The Queen and her court will represent Gilroy at various festivities leading up to the Gilroy Garlic Festival, which will be held this year on July 26, 27 and 28 at Christmas Hill Park. They will also have the opportunity to make guest appearances in local print, radio, TV and online media, in parades, and at fundraising events. Most importantly, they spend all three days at the festival having a garlicky good time with fellow lovers of the pungent bulb.

Pre-sale pageant tickets will be available for purchase from any of the contestants or in the Gilroy Garlic Festival Office for $10. On the day of the event, tickets for the pageant may be purchased at the door for $15. For more information, go to
