Gilroy Garlic Festival Welcomes Music and Culinary Stars, July 26, 27 & 28

June 18, 2019 (Gilroy, CA): Visitors to the 41st annual Gilroy Garlic Festival on July 26, 27 and 28, 2019, will enjoy live music including headliners Colbie Caillat featuring Gone West, celebrity chefs featuring Tom Colicchio and Gerron Hurt, and delicious food from Gourmet Alley that draws thousands of garlic lovers from across the globe each year.

In the Festival’s first-ever Saturday evening concert, Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter Colbie Caillat will appear with her new band Gone West live on the Amphitheater Stage. Gone West is a new Nashville-based band featuring 2-Time Grammy Award Winner Colbie Caillat, multi-platinum singer/songwriter Jason Reeves, 4-time Hawaii Music Award Winner Justin Kawika Young, and ACM and CMT nominated artist Nelly Joy. The concert is included with Festival admission, and the grounds will remain open until 8:00 pm on Saturday so guests can enjoy the show and all the Festival has to offer.

The Challenge Butter Cook-Off Stage will welcome James Beard Award-winning chef, restaurateur and Top Chef head judge Tom Colicchio on Saturday, July 27, when he will host the Great Garlic Cook-Off, one of the country’s most prestigious amateur cooking competitions. On Friday, July 26, MasterChef Season 9 winner Gerron Hurt will host both the Champions for Charity and Garlic Chef Jr. (for young chefs ages 9-18) cooking competitions. Real Housewives of New Jersey star and cookbook author Teresa Giudice will prepare some of her family’s favorite Italian dishes on Saturday afternoon. And on Sunday, July 28, Alexander La Motte, Executive Chef at Rosewood CordeValle Resort in San Martin, will preside over the Garlic Showdown, in which professional chefs battle for a cash prize and ultimate bragging rights.

On the other side of the park, the fourth annual Gilroy Garli-Que BBQ Challenge will combine an officially sanctioned Kansas City Barbeque Society contest for professional teams on Saturday with a Backyard BBQ Ribs Challenge for amateurs on Sunday. Guests can purchase samples and then cast their votes for the “People’s Choice” awards.

For 41 years, the heart of the Gilroy Garlic Festival has always been Gourmet Alley, the gigantic outdoor kitchen where “Pyro Chefs” put on a spectacular flame-up show preparing garlic-laced calamari and scampi in huge iron skillets while hundreds of volunteers serve up all the official food of the Garlic Festival, from pasta con pesto to pepper steak sandwiches. This year, guests will have the option to order all their Festival favorite dishes from one window on the Ranch Side of Gourmet Alley.

Other vendor booths around the park offer a wide range of food and beverages, from chocolate-dipped fruit kabobs to frozen lemonade. Visitors can visit cocktail booths (located near the entertainment stages) to sample the 2019 Gilroy Garlic Festival signature cocktail, a Whiskey Daisy, and the return of the Garlic Festival Mule. The open-air Wine Garden features award-winning wines from local Santa Clara Valley vintners.

Live entertainment is provided on three stages, with a variety of acts including rock ‘n roll, country, jazz, blues, reggae, and swing. On “Hot Country Sunday” (July 28) at the Amphitheater Stage, the Gilroy Garlic Festival will celebrate 15 years of partnering with KRTY 95.3 to present exciting live performances by up-and-coming country artists. Past acts that have gone on to big country careers have included Rascal Flatts, Kip Moore, Michael Ray, Dustin Lynch, and many more. This year will feature performances from King Calaway, Waterloo Revival, and Caylee Hammack.

Guests can find official souvenirs at the Garlic Mercantile stores and stroll through dozens of vendor booths that showcase fine arts, handmade crafts, and a colorful array of high-quality creations, including jewelry, ceramics, paintings, sculptures, and more…even garlic bulb hats and henna tattoos!

Younger guests will find rides, hands-on activities, and kid-friendly food in the Children’s Area. Visitors of all ages can try their hand at making their own garlic braid as a fun, free souvenir or watch daily garlic topping demonstrations.

This year, tickets for the popular Caltrain “Garlic Train” (running on Saturday, July 27 and Sunday, July 28) will include connecting trips from Diridon Station to as far north as San Francisco at no additional charge. Garlic Train tickets must be purchased in advance and include Festival admission and a convenient shuttle bus running to and from the Gilroy station.

All visitors are encouraged to download the free Gilroy Garlic Festival app (available from the App Store and Google Play) before they arrive. The app is packed with useful features, including a live upcoming event feed, map, driving directions, full event schedule, booth listings, and more.
