FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Gilroy Garlic Festival Pays Out $275,000 in Non-Profit Distributions
October 20, 2017 (Gilroy, CA):
The Gilroy Garlic Festival Association announced distributions totaling $275,000 to 146 different charities and non-profit organizations. The 2017 figure brings the Garlic Festival’s 39-year total distributions to $11.5 million.
In the Volunteer Equity Program, instituted by the Gilroy Garlic Festival founders in 1979, net proceeds from the three-day event are distributed to local schools, sports teams, non-profit groups, and service organizations based on the number of hours logged at the Festival by over 4,000 volunteers representing those organizations.
2017 Gilroy Garlic Festival President Mike Zukowski said, “Aside from the three days of the Festival itself, this is one of the best days of the year for everyone involved in this amazing event. We are all so grateful to the 4,000+ volunteers who worked so hard to make this year’s Gilroy Garlic Festival ‘bigger, better and bolder’ than ever before—and very happy to share the proceeds with so many worthy groups in our community!”
For 2017, the top five beneficiaries are: South Valley Community Church Youth Group ($13,368); Live Oak Emerald Regime ($12,503); Gilroy Police Explorers Post 818 ($10,100); Gilroy Gators Swim Team ($10,064.67); and Gilroy High School Football ($6,842).
