Maggie Pickford Crowned 2017 Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen

May 16, 2017 (Gilroy, CA): Maggie Pickford was crowned the 2017 Miss Gilroy Garlic Festival Queen at the annual scholarship pageant held on May 13 at Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park. Queen Maggie and her court will represent the 39th annual Gilroy Garlic Festival at numerous pre-Festival activities and throughout the three days of the Festival, July 28, 29 and 30, 2017.

Currently a senior at Gilroy High School, Maggie Pickford plans to attend UCLA in the fall. As Queen, she was awarded the $1,000 top prize from the Gilroy Garlic Festival Association (GGFA) as well as a $7,500 scholarship from Christopher Ranch. Pickford also won the Talent Competition with a classical violin performance and was awarded $100 from The District Theater.

The rest of the 2017 royal garlic court will include First Runner-Up Kylie Kuwada, who received $500 from GGFA and $3,500 from Christopher Ranch; and Second Runners-Up Emily Boykin and Lexy Cartwright, who each received $250 from GGFA and $2,500 from Christopher Ranch. Princesses Lindsey Buessing, Mariah Carpenter, Mary McClelland, Macey Lee Mitchell, and Adrianna Molina were each awarded $1,000 from Christopher Ranch.

Mary McClelland was named “Miss Congeniality” and awarded $100 from Gilroy Construction. Emily Boykin received a $100 prize from Gilroy Construction as winner of the Speech Competition and also received the Olam Scholarship ($1,000) as well as the Past Presidents’ Scholarship ($1,650). Lexy Cartwright won both the Past Queens’ Scholarship ($430) and Founding Fathers’ Scholarship ($500). Adrianna Molina received the Franca Barsi Miss Gilroy Garlic 1986 Memorial Scholarship ($500).

Over 200 people attended the pageant, which was held at the Lakeside Amphitheater stage at Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park and emceed by Don DeLorenzo, owner of Gilroy Golf Course. Over $24,000 in scholarship prizes were awarded to this year’s contestants.
