Chef Jason Gronlund from Smokey Bones Bar & Fire Grill in Orlando, Florida is this year’s Garlic Showdown champion after wowing judges with “Fire & Ice Calamari” and “and Pork Fillet with Hash.” It’s Chef Gronlund’s second Showdown win in a row.
The Garlic Showdown is a grueling competition pitting top chefs against each other in a timed challege to create two dishes that also include secret ingredients revealed during the contest. This year’s secret ingredients were black garlic, black berries, elephant garlic, roasted garlic and pickled garlic. The event was hosted by TV Chef and co-host of ABC’s “The Chew,” Carla Hall.
Chef Jason Gronlund was assisted by Sous Chef Jay Minzer, a Floria-based private chef by trade. Gronlund annouced his $5000 winning check will be donated to the American Cancer Society, continuing a tradition of supporting non-profits. Last year, his award was given to the San Francisco Bay Area Alzheimer’s Foundation.
